"General Hospital" actress Joan Benedict has died. She was 96.

The widow of Oscar-winning actor Rod Steiger passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on June 24, TMZ reported Monday, citing a family spokesperson.

Benedict died of complications from a stroke.

The actress began her career in the 1950s by appearing in the TV shows "Candid Camera" and "The Steve Allen Show."

She also made appearances in the series "The Smith Family," "Apple's Way," "Hunter," "The Incredible Hulk," "Fantasy Island," and "Dollhouse," according to her IMDb page.

Benedict played Edith Fairchild on the soap opera "General Hospital" and had recurring roles on "Days of Our Lives" and "Capitol," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Her film credits include "The Prize Fighter," "A Month of Sundays," "Sweet Underground," "Perfect Victims," and "Dead Border."

Benedict's last on-screen project was the 2017 film "Opus of an Angel."

Benedict was married to "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" actor John Myhers from 1962 until his death in 1992.

Eight years later, she wed Steiger, who won an Oscar for best actor for "In the Heat of the Night, " in 2000.

Steiger died at age 77 in 2002 after suffering complications from surgery for a gallbladder tumor.

Benedict went on to have a relationship with "Hell's Angels '69" actor Jeremy Slate until he died at age 80 in 2006 due to esophageal cancer.

Benedict's death was announced on the same day another "General Hospital" alum's passing was made public.

Kane Funeral Home, which made the announcement, stated on its website that Doug Sheehan died "peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, with his loving wife at his side." He was 75.

A cause of death was not disclosed.

Sheehan appeared as lawyer Joe Kelly on "General Hospital" from 1979 to 1982, according to People.

The role earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination for outstanding actor in a supporting role in a daytime drama series.

Sheehan went on to star in the "Dallas" spinoff "Knots Landing" and NBC's "Day by Day," where he played stockbroker Brian Harper.

He also appeared on the TV series "MacGyver," "Diagnosis Murder," "Columbo," and "Cheers" as well as the films "Victor/Victoria" and "Cops n Roberts."
