Angela Simmons Trolled Online For Her Sultry Fried Oreos Ad After Insensitive Fashion Choice At BET Awards
Angela Simmons took a provocative approach for the debut of her latest collaboration that had social media in shambles.
The owner of Angela's Cakes was photographed in a bathtub covered in Oreos, with a plate of fried versions of the cookies placed nearby. Angela's Cakes and Slutty Vegan have teamed up to offer vegan fried Oreos on the restaurant's menu for a limited time.
The promotional video, uploaded to Instagram on Tuesday, ignited a flurry of reactions on social media.
Simmons and Pinky Cole's Slutty Vegan are gearing up to debut their vegan fried Oreos this Friday at the restaurants' brick-and-mortar sites.
"With me being a major vegan foodie with a sweet tooth, I'm always looking to satisfy my cravings, especially when I'm traveling," Simmons stated in a press release. "Working with Pinky and Slutty Vegan has been amazing because she shares that same vision of bringing the tastiest vegan options to the masses."
Following a recent wave of viral attention for a contentious fashion choice, Simmons, 36, debuted the provocative advertisement shortly thereafter.
At the BET Awards on June 30, she made a striking entrance in a green gown, accompanied by a green purse shaped like a bejeweled firearm. Photographs captured her posing in various "shooting" gestures both on the red carpet and during the event.
Simmons posted a video apology, explaining that she had viewed the firearm-shaped purse as a bold fashion statement. Yet, the subsequent day, she released a detailed written statement, expressing deep regret over her decision.
In her apology, the business woman highlighted her advocacy against gun violence, which holds personal significance for her. The father of her son, Sutton Joseph Tennyson Jr, died due to a gun-related incident.
Simmons is the daughter of DJ, rapper, and producer Rev Run, one of the founding members of Run-DMC. He is also a practicing minister who goes by the moniker Reverend Run.
