Melania Trump Breaks Silence On Husband Donald Trump's Assassination Attempt
Melania Trump has released her first statement on the assassination attempt on her husband, Donald Trump.
A day after a gunman shot and injured the former president at his Pennsylvania campaign rally, the former first lady addressed the incident in a message posted to her account on X, formerly Twitter.
Melania condemned the shooter -- identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks -- as a "monster" and expressed her fear over nearly losing her husband.
"A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald's passion -- his laughter, ingenuity, love of music and inspiration," she wrote in the statement shared Sunday.

"The core facets of my husband's life -- his human side -- were buried below the political machine," she continued. "Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times."
The ex-FLOTUS also thanked the Secret Service and law enforcement who "risked their own lives to protect [her] husband" as well as extended her condolences to the three rally attendees who were shot.
According to CBS News, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore died, while two other men, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, were injured in the shooting.
The gunman was fatally shot by the Secret Service.

Melania went on to urge people to "reunite" and set aside the "hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence."
"We all want a world where respect is paramount, family is first, and love transcends. We can realize this world again. Each of us must demand to get it back. We must insist that respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships, again," she continued.
Melania concluded her lengthy statement by thanking those from the other side of the aisle who reached out to and expressed support for their family during this time.
"Thank you for remembering that every single politician is a man or woman with a loving family," she wrote.
Trump was speaking to supporters at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday when gunshots were fired.
Footage from the event showed Trump with a bloody ear and face as he was rushed off the stage by the Secret Service.
The Republican presidential candidate survived but later said a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear.
Despite the incident, Trump has not slowed down his campaign.
He arrived in Milwaukee Sunday evening for the Republican National Convention, which starts Monday.
