Princess Diana was right about her perception of Queen Camilla and King Charles' feelings for the latter, according to a royal expert.

Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent, weighed in on King Charles and Queen Camilla's relationship as the latter celebrated her 77th birthday on July 17. According to Bond, the British royals have grown closer, noting how Camilla stepped up in her royal duties amid the monarch's cancer diagnosis and how proud her husband was of her.

"I think that whereas Charles was rather jealous of Diana's success, he could not be more proud of Camilla, who has come to this role late in life and without the safety net of an adoring public," Bond told OK! "These difficult few months will have made his love even deeper."

She reflected on Camilla's dedication to her royal duties, saying that it contributed to her closer relationship with King Charles. Bond also recounted Princess Diana's comment on Camilla's loyalty.

"I think part of it is because she so much wants the man she loves to be proud of her. But it must also be so gratifying to have earned widespread approval, even affection, from a public who once ganged up against her as the 'other woman' who made Diana so unhappy," she continued.

"I think Diana was absolutely right to tell me that Camilla was 'loyal' and that Charles' love for Camilla was stronger than any marriage he might ever have made."

Previous reports claimed King Charles was jealous of his late wife's popularity. The media would reportedly talk more about Princess Diana and her fashion whenever they attended engagements. Prince William and Prince Harry's mom seemingly confirmed this in her interview with BBC's Martin Bashir for "Panorama" in 1995 when asked if she was flattered by the media attention.

"No, not particularly, because with the media attention came a lot of jealousy, a great deal of complicated situations arose because of that," Princess Diana said.

Prince Harry also talked about his dad's alleged jealousy of his mom, who overshadowed him during their public outings.

"Pa might have dreaded the rising cost of maintaining us, but what he really couldn't stomach was someone new dominating the monarchy, grabbing the limelight, someone shiny and new coming in and overshadowing him," he wrote in his memoir "Spare" when he talked about King Charles' decision not to support his wife, Meghan Markle, financially because there was not "enough money," Grazia reported.

Prince Harry claimed that his dad "lived through that" when he was married to his mom, Princess Diana. He also opened up about Markle's similarities to his late mother.

"So much of what Meghan is, and how she is, is so similar to my mom. She has the same compassion, she has the same empathy, she has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her," Prince Harry said.
