Gospel Singer Kim Burrell Apologizes To LGBTQ Community For Past Comments: ‘We Must Embrace All Of God’s People’
Kim Burrell is issuing an apology to the LGBTQ+ community for her past comments.
The gospel artist made an appearance at the '2024 Stellar Awards' this past weekend to receive the Aretha Franklin Icon Award.
While giving her acceptance speech, Burrell expressed her regret to the LGBTQ+ community while emphasizing the need for everyone to accept all of God's creations.
"I want to apologize to the LGBTQ community," she said. "Let's give them a great big round of applause. We want them to have strength and to sincerely know that we must all do the work to embrace all of God's people and show forth His love to everyone."
She added how she hopes "that this award and this moment can be the beginning of a bridge-building and listening to each other as we follow peace with all man and develop the character of God, which requires seeing God."
Burrell's acceptance speech garnered a range of responses on social media. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, remarked: "That tone... she could've kept it."
Another X commenter posted: "Whatever she originally said about gay people cost her some money..."
In 2017, Burrell encountered backlash after she called homosexuality perverted during a sermon that was leaked online.
"Anybody in this room who's dealing with the homosexual spirit, beg God to free you. Play with it in 2017; you'll die from it," she said.
Her comments caused her radio show and television program being canceled, according to 'LGBTQ Nation.'
The 51-year-old was dropped from an appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' where she was scheduled to appear with Pharrell Williams, who distanced himself from her comments.
