Taylor Swift's Germany Concert Seen For Free By 40,000 Fans Who Sat On A High Hill Outside Stadium
Thousands of fans who missed out on tickets to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert in Munich gathered on a nearby hill to catch the show from afar.
Local police estimated that about 40,000 people assembled on Olympic Hill, which overlooks Munich's Olympiastadion, according to Süddeutsche Zeitung. Inside the stadium, Swift performed to a crowd of 74,000.
At the start of the concert, Swift, 34, addressed the fans outside on the hill.
"We've got people in a park outside the stadium, thousands of people listening from out there," Swift said, as seen in footage shared on X. "I just feel so incredibly welcome."
The trend of fans gathering outside concerts, dubbed "Taylor-gating," began during Swift's US tour last year. Enthusiasts flocked to nearby streets, parks, and parking lots to enjoy the music from outside the venue.
Although some cities have discouraged fans from gathering without tickets, 'LBC' reported that for the Munich, Germany, concert, amenities like restrooms and drink stations were provided in the park on the hill. Social media clips showed the hill crowded with fans even before the stadium was filled.
Olympiapark's website noted that Olympic Hill offers a "magnificent view of the Olympic Park" and has long been a favored spot for enjoying free open-air concerts. The site encourages visitors to use the hill to listen to top rock and pop acts while relaxing with a picnic blanket.
