Watch: US Diver Scores 0.0 After Major Error Causes Her Legs To Hit Board At Paris Olympics 2024
A Team USA diver finished last in the preliminaries of her event at the Paris Olympics 2024 Wednesday after a major mishap.
Alison Gibson, 25, received a devastating score of 0.0 after her feet collided with the board during her first dive in the Olympic women's 3-meter springboard preliminaries.
In a video first shared by Claro Sports via X, formerly Twitter, Gibson could be seen bouncing off the board and going into the pike position, which involved bending at the waist and laying her chest flat against her thighs.
The Texas-born athlete attempted to pull off an inward dive with 2 and a half somersaults.

However, Gibson was too close to the board and ended up striking it with her feet after her last somersault.
After the collision, Gibson lost her form and flailed down to the water feet-first, resulting in judges awarding her zero points.
The video captured her looking mortified after her failure, but she went on to complete her remaining four dives.
Gibson placed last among the event's 28 participants with a final score of 198.30, The U.S. Sun reported.
Her fellow American diver Sarah Bacon also did not advance to the semifinals of the 3-meter springboard competition after failing to make it into the top 18 during the preliminaries, according to NBC News.
Following the event, Gibson got emotional as she spoke to Reuters about the mishap and the painful wounds she sustained when her feet hit the board.
"I hit my heels and my feet on the board. I have cuts along the sides. And then I bruised my right heel pretty good, but I was determined to keep going," she said tearfully.
"I definitely was in pain. But one thing that I say is I hope that anyone who is watching just was able to see what it looks like to get up and keep going even when things don't go the way you want them to. It's about the fight," Gibson added.
The diver went on to say that she hopes to "learn and grow" from her failure.
"Obviously, today didn't go the way I wanted it to," Gibson told the news outlet. "But I think you can learn and grow from every experience, and I truly hope that the next generation of athletes recognise that even in the worst moments you can keep fighting, you can walk courageously."
Gibson also finished last in the synchronized 3-meter springboard event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
