'Doctor Who' Season 8 Premiere: 'Tucked Away' Story Ideas To Be Rolled Out In Upcoming Installment? [VIDEO]
New Zealand native, Neil Cross, will return as a writer to Doctor Who and is currently prepping the scripts for season 8 of the show.
Neil Cross first wrote for Doctor Who last year, penning two episodes, The Rings of Akhaten and Hide. His writing for season 7 was quite distinctive for each episode. The Rings of Akhaten featured tons of aliens on a space station, while Hide took place in Britain in the 1950s.
Cross is a fan of the show and is therefore familiar with its characters, but he said he still wants to discuss the show's direction with its regular writer Steven Moffat.
"I have got story ideas tucked away, but if I told you about them I would have to kill you. There's a whole bunch of stuff I want to do," he told Stuff New Zealand. "Steven is clearly very busy with the 50th anniversary special and Christmas special, but I have to find out from Steven what his intentions for the Doctor are and what sort of stories he wants me to write."
Cross said he is looking forward to writing material for a new member of the show's cast, Peter Capaldi. The Scottish actor will play the character Matt Smith, and Cross is already familiar with Capaldi's acting style.
"There's something about his physicality, his image, his wit, that evokes the Doctor. There's something about him that evokes classic Doctor Who," Cross said.
Many fans are hoping another New Zealand native, director Peter Jackson, will contribute to season 8. Jackson is a fan of the show and has had conversations with Moffat on several occasions.
