Sea Snail In Knee: Living Snail Hatched & Grew Underneath 4-Year-Old's Skin After He Bumped Knee [VIDEO]
While vacationing with his family on the beach near Aliso Viejo, Calif. in July, 4-year-old Paul Franklin fell and scraped open his right knee, which isn't out of the norm for a child his age.
However, the fall itself was clearly the tip of the iceberg, as it turns out he had a baby snail that grew underneath his skin, according to CNN.
Paul was walking on the beach when he banged his knee on a rock.
"We just cleaned it up, put a Band-Aid on it. Before you know it, a couple weeks later, his knee was very swollen and somewhat infected," his father, Ken Franklin, informed the news station.
A doctor had told Paul's mother, Rachel, that it could be a staph infection. While antibiotics helped the matter, there was a black bump that was growing in size under his skin.
"It looked like a rock. It was a black thing. I put it on a paper towel and I'm like, 'That is a weird looking rock. It has swirls on it, and I turn it over and it is a sea snail."
Paul himself spoke about the odd protrusion on his knee.
"I thought it was kind of crazy," he said.
Interestingly enough, The Orange County Register reported that Paul actually named the snail Turbo, after the character in an animated summer movie.
