The victim of a taxi cab accident in New York City, in which one of her legs was severed, has been identified as Sian Green, a British tourist visiting the U.S.

A student of fashion-buying at De Montfort University, Green is employed as a buyer trainee at Hugo Boss, reports the London Evening Standard. Green had been so excited to visit the Big Apple that she charted the days leading up to her trip with an Instagram countdown and message that read: "New York plzzzzz hurry up!"

On Tuesday, quick-thinking good Samaritans, including a union plumber and celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz, helped saved the life of a British tourist whose leg was severed by a runaway taxi in midtown Manhattan.

The 23-year-old victim, Green, was struck in Rockefeller Center on Tuesday.

David Justino fashioned a tourniquet with his plumber's belt for one of Green's legs. He used a dog leash for the other injured leg.

TV's "Dr. Oz," who was walking in the area, rushed over when he heard the accident. He credited Justino for saving the woman's life.

A nearby food truck owner, Max Crespo, said he placed her severed limb in a bucket of ice.

Police say the cab driver was issued a summons for being an unauthorized driver. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.

Green's family, who lives in Leicester, was stunned by what happened to their daughter, theTelegraph reports.

"We are a really close family and we are all devastated by what has happened. We don't know what to say ... we just want to be at our daughter's side right now," Green's father, Jason, told the paper. He said they hope to bring her home to recover.

Her boyfriend William Lord, who was on a trip of his own, to Ibiza, when the accident occurred, is also expected to fly to New York to be with her, according to the Daily Mail.
