Robin Roberts is having the vacation of a lifetime, soaking up with sun and relaxing in Maui, Hawaii. Hanging with six of her closest gal pals, the Good Morning America anchor is in "great spirits," a source told EnStars on Thursday.

Recent photos showed her looking pensive and worried, stirring up speculation about Roberts' health. But a source close to the situation claims it was just "a bad photo taken to sell magazines."

"Robin was actually being told about the German woman who lost her arm in a Maui shark attack had died. That is why she looked so distraught," the source revealed.

The former ESPN reporter has taken on and survived two very serious illnesses over the past five years. First, Roberts beat breast cancer in 2007. Then in 2012, she announced that she was leaving Good Morning America for a while to be treated for a rare blood and bone-marrow disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS. She triumphantly returned to her anchor desk in February of this year.

Roberts is enjoying her time off, her friend said. She uploaded several photos from her Hawaiian vacation, lounging by the water, taking a canoe ride and playing tennis.

"She is having a lot of fun. She's happy, surrounded by great friends and just enjoying life," the source said.

Roberts plans to return to GMA the day after Labor Day, where she'll be back to a five-day a week schedule.
