Hayden Panettiere is telling her story — all of it, on her own terms.

The actress, best known for her roles as Claire Bennet on Heroes and Juliette Barnes on Nashville, released her highly anticipated memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning today, May 19, 2026. In it, Panettiere delves into her experience as a child actor at the whim of an overly eager stage mom, navigating her time on hit television shows while her personal life crumbled, and the substance abuse issues that stemmed from it all.

The book has already generated significant buzz ahead of its release, with Panettiere making the rounds on press tours and sharing increasingly candid details about what readers will find inside.

The Hollywood Predator Story

One of Panettiere's most shocking revelations is her memory, from when she was 18 years old, of being lured by a friend into a room and told to get in bed with a famous male actor who was naked. The incident, described in the memoir, adds her voice to a growing wave of Hollywood figures speaking openly about the abuse of power that defined the early-aughts entertainment industry.

Her Father's Arrest — Told to Her by Milo Ventimiglia

In the memoir, Panettiere recalls her former costar and then-boyfriend Milo Ventimiglia coming to her Heroes trailer with devastating news — letting her know that her dad, Alan Panettiere, was sitting in jail after an incident involving her mother, Lesley Vogel. Panettiere describes her heart pounding and her mind spiraling as she processed the news on set.

On Her Sexuality

"It was always the fear of not being perfect, and what my team was going to think about it, what the public's opinion was going to be about it," Panettiere explained about why it took her years to speak openly about her sexuality. "It's sad that I had to wait till I was 36 years old to share that part of me, but better late than never, right?"

Why She Wrote the Book

"One of the things that I was most terrified about, when deciding whether or not to write this book, was that I knew what was going to come along with it," she said. "I had to sit with myself and make a decision, and I realized it was more important for me to share my stories and to wipe the slate clean."

This Is Me: A Reckoning covers postpartum depression, addiction and recovery, trauma, domestic abuse, and loss. Panettiere describes the experiences she calls "lifequakes" — moments that fractured her sense of self and forced her to rebuild from the inside out. She is celebrating the release tonight with a signing event at Barnes & Noble Union Square in New York City.
