Wednesday, September 11, 2013 will mark the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that occured back in 2011.

For the 12th consecutive September 11, many Americans will first fall silent at 8:46 a.m. Wednesday morning.

It's been years after terrorists killed 2,977 people, beginning on American Airlines Flight 11's after it crashed into the north tower of the WTC exactly at 8:46. At 9:03 a.m., United Flight 175 crashed into the World Trade Center South Tower. Those victims will be honored for the annual commemoration of the 9/11 attacks in New York City.

President Obama will speak in Washington D.C. at a private observance for family members of the 184 people who died when Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m.

Family members will read the names of victims of the plane crashes on 9/11 at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pa. The names of the victims of the 1993 World Trade Center truck bombing will also be read at the ceremony.

As expected, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Govs. Chris Christie and Andrew Cuomo are scheduled to attend the ceremony in New York, along with family members of the victims and other dignitaries.

A silent ceremony will be held in Middleton, N.J. for the 37 residents that died in the Monmouth County town and hold a wreath-laying in the Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens beginning at 8:46 a.m., when the first plane struck.

"Even after the passage of 12 years, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 appear no less horrific or senseless than they did that day," Sen. Joe Kyrillos, said who is scheduled to attend the Middletown ceremony. "More importantly, the memories of lost loved ones are no less honored today than then."
