'Avengers 2' Villain James Spader Was First Pick For Joss Whedon
It looks like Joss Whedon got exactly what he was looking for when James Spader was cast as the next Avengers villain.
When it comes to who fans were hoping would portray Ultron, the Boston Legal actor wasn't really on anyone's radar. Whedon, however, was quick to extol Spader's virtues while talking with Marvel's The Watcher.
"Spader was my first and only choice," Whedon said. "He's got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he's also very human and humorous. Ultron is not HAL. Spader can play all of the levels. He's the guy to break the Avengers into pieces."
If there is something the writer/director seems to want more than anything, it's to make things as difficult for the superhero team as possible.

Joss Whedon Reveals Age of Ultron Villain's New Design
While The Avengers needed a bit of prompting to work togeather during their last outing, now that they have all the problems of Phase Two under their belt along with the new additions of Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch, it seems dysfunction will be rampant among the heroes in the new Avengers sequel.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters in the summer of 2015.
