iPhone 5S/5C: New Apple Releases Spark Familiar Debate over Apple and Android Technologies[PHOTOS]
With Apple's recent release of the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, tech enthusiasts are once again putting them to the test against their biggest competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S4.
The new iPhones aren't too different from their predecessors in terms of specifications, featuring the same storage options ranging from 16-64 GB, a 4-inch Retina display, an 1136 x 640 resolution with 326 ppi, and a 1080p HD camcorder with 30fps.
According to the Las Vegas Guardian Express, the new phone comes with iOS 7 software built-in (which older phones are capable of downloading), an A7 chip with 64-bit architecture to enhance performance and extend battery life. The device also has a camera with a faster f/2.2 aperture, enhanced slow-motion and burst mode effects. The new TouchID Sensor assists customers with making purchases from the iTunes and App stores, with no password required.
How does it compare to the Samsung Galaxy S4? Android authority gave the phones a side-by-side comparison in design, display, cameras, battery, specs and software. The 5s features an aluminum shell while the S4 features a polycarbonate chassis. The new 5C however, is made out of plastic, which allows it to come in a multitude of color options. It may not score highly with customers used to the stronger, more premium materials.
In terms of display, the S4 still comes in with a larger 5-inch Retina display, higher resolution of 1080 x 1920, and pixel density of 441ppi. The cameras have the same aperture but the S4 has 13-megapixels compared to the iPhone's 8, and features BSI, auto focus and digital image stabilization.
The Galaxy S4 features a removable battery that is rated for 17 hours of talk and 3G, 15.4 days of stand-by time and roughly 10 hours of browsing and Wi-Fi usage. The iPhone features the standard non-removable battery that is only rated for 10 hours of talk time, 10 days of standby, and 10 hours of browsing and Wi-Fi usage.
