Jada Pinkett Smith is the latest in a long line of celebrities to reveal a past addiction.

The Hawthorne actress, 42, posted on Sept. 19 a Facebook message about her past choices, revealing that she once struggled with addiction, according to The Huffington Post. She wrote the note a day after her birthday.

"What I learned about myself is this, when I was younger I was not a good problem solver, meaning I had a very difficult time with dealing with my problems in my life," she said. "I had many addictions, of several kinds, to deal with my life issues, but today, at 42, I have my wisdom, my heart and my conscience as the only tools to overcome life's inevitable obstacles. I have become a good problem solver with those tools, and I am damn proud."

Pinkett Smith didn't specify what addictions she suffered from, nor did she reveal whether they were to drugs or alcohol. She added that she hopes to continue along a path of "healthy understanding."

Her mother, Adrienne Banfield, admitted her own struggles with addiction last year. She said she was addicted to drugs until Pinkett Smith was in her late teens.

Pinkett Smith married Men in Black actor Will Smith in 1997. The couple has three children together: Trey, Jaden and Willow.

Pinkett Smith is not the only celebrity to reveal her struggles recently. In a new autobiography due on shelves next month, Melissa Joan Hart of Clarissa Explains it All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch admitted to drug use as a teen.

Zac Efron Finishes Rehab Stint Amid a Reported Cocaine Addiction?

High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron was also recently revealed as having finished a stint in rehab for reported addictions to cocaine and alcohol, while Glee star Cory Monteith died from a heroin overdose in July. The actor was featured in a special 'In memoriam" segment at Sunday's Primetime Emmy Awards.
