'Monster Truck Hits Crowd: Tragedy Results In Eight Deaths & 79 Injuries [VIDEO FOOTAGE]
Tragedy struck as a monster truck lost control shooting into a crowd of spectators at a Mexican air show, resulting in the death of eight people and the injuries of 79.
According to Christian Science Monitor, the driver of the truck was taken into custody on suspicion of manslaughter while officials currently investigate potential safety hazards that were potentially bypassed during the setup of the show.
Video footage from the stands via spectator Krizthall Martinez revealed the oversized truck driving over two cars. However, it then made a second attempt at a higher speed, thrusting forward and then moving straight into a group of onlookers.
Feld Motor Sports spokesman Stephen Payne came to the defense of the safety protocol that's usually enforced for the monster trucks amid the disturbing ordeal..
"We're inspecting every single truck before it comes on the performance space. And at each and every venue that we play at, we make sure the safety buffers that we put into place are appropriate for that venue. We have people on the floor who have remote ignition interrupters, so at the first sign of a problem with one of these trucks, we can shut it down immediately. And a truck is not allowed on the floor unless it passes a test that shows that interruption works," he said.
No information has yet to come out on whether the monster truck event in Mexico had remote ignition interrupters.
