Starting the season off with two consecutive wins, first over the Buffalo Sabers and then in overtime over the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit had a strong opening. The Red Wings then fell to the Boston Bruins and the Phoenix Coyotes before picking up three victories courtesy of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Boston Bruins, and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Detroit is currently in second place for the Central Division with 10 points, according to ESPN.
