Sparks Middle School Shooting: Gunfire In Reno, Nevada Leaves Teacher, Student Dead & 2 Wounded [VIDEO]
A student and teacher are presumed dead and two others have been injured after a rampage of gunfire broke out at a Nevada Middle School Monday.
The incident occurred at Sparks Middle School and it is unclear what relation the shooter had to students and faculty, though some reports state that a 7th grader at the school was responsible for the attack. The identity of the shooter was not revealed.
Officials said the suspect is no longer a threat at the school. The Sparks Police Department released a statement on their website stating that the "suspect had been neutralized."
Reports are currently conflicted, as students tell different accounts to the media.
Two students reportedly confirmed to the Reno Gazette-Journal that one of the victims is a popular math teacher at the school who reportedly saw the student with the gun and tried to make him/her release it before being shot.
Reno deputy police chief Tom Robinson addressed parents at a press conference on Monday, saying that roughly 150-200 personnel had secured both the school and the surrounding area.
"I can tell them to rest assured. The schools are safe. The rest of the city is safe," he said.
Students were evacuated from both the middle school and the nearby Agnes Risley Elementary School, according to USA Today.
This is approximately the 16th shooting at a school campus this year, including the death of a security guard at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. The latter shooting was linked back to Boston bombing suspects Dzhokhar and Tamerian Tsarnaev.
