Wayne Newton Yacht Sinks: Entertainer’s 65-Foot Boat Submerges Front First At Marina [PHOTO, VIDEO]
A yacht owned by Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton sank at the marina it was stationed at on Friday, Oct. 18.
No cause for the boat's sinking has been determined but authorities are investigating.
Newton was vacationing with his wife Kathleen at the time of the incident and no one was aboard the vessel, resulting in no reported injuries.
National Park Service spokesperson Christie Vanover said Monday that the 65-foot boat sank stern-first in 45 feet of water in Lake Mead while stationed at the Temple Bar Marina, about 80 miles east of Las Vegas. The marina is located on the Arizona side of the Colorado River Reservoir.
Newton's sister-in-law Tricia McCrone confirmed to The Associated Press that the boat, named Rendezvous, was indeed Newton's boat. The entertainer has owned the vessel since 1996.
According to The Las Vegas Sun, the boat appeared to have some kind of equipment failure resulting in the boat taking on water quickly, sinking it within minutes. The boat was reportedly filled with artwork and family photos that had been chosen by Newton's wife.
This is the second luxurious item the entertainer has lost in a one-month period. According to AOL Real estate, the crooner's 36-acre ranch outside of Las Vegas, known as Casa de Shenandoah, was listed for sale in September at the price of $70 million after plans to turn the home into a Wayne Newton Museum fell through.
