Marina Oswald: Lee Harvey is ‘Absolutely Innocent,’ As She Sells Wedding Ring at JFK Auction [VIDEO]
The wedding ring Lee Harvey Oswald left behind as he attempted to flee after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 was auctioned Thursday in Boston during an event honoring the 50th anniversary of the president's death.
The ring, which was recently recovered by Oswald's widow Marina Oswald Porter, will be auctioned off among 300 other Kennedy-related items. Up for sale were Kennedy's rosary beads, some clothing and Oswald's U.S. Marine Corps Rifle score book, among others. Items up for bid included a hat worn by Jack Ruby, the nightclub owner who killed Oswald on live television two days after Kennedy's assassination.
According to Newsmax, Oswald Porter submitted the ring along with a five-page letter where she wrote, "At this time of my life I don't wish to have Lee's ring in my possession because symbolically I want to let go of my past that is connecting with Nov. 22, 1963."
Oswald, who had reportedly never taken the ring off, removed it and left it on a dresser the day of the president's assassination. His ring could reportedly sell for $100,000 or more.
More items are also believed to be up for auction, including the white Lincoln Continental that the president and his wife had been in hours before his death. Another is the sixth-floor window from the Texas School Book Depository that was believed to be Oswald's perch, which the building owner removed after the attack.
Oswald was accused of assassinating Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963 in Dealy Plaza in Dallas, Texas. In the decades since the murder, several conspiracy theories have emerged as to whether or not Oswald was solely responsible for the attack or if others were involved.
Oswald Porter has since recanted on statements she initially made back in 1963 saying that she believed her husband was responsible, and has tried to clear his name ever since.
"I think he's absolutely innocent in the murder of President Kennedy or Officer Tippit," she said in an undated video interview. "I would like for people in an official capacity who say that he is guilty to come up with the proof."
