Morgan Freeman Tea Party: Says Republicans Are ‘Strange’ & They Should ‘Move Out’, Approves Gay Rights [VIDEO]
Actor Morgan Freeman spoke out against the Republican party in a new interview with The Daily Beast.
The 76-year-old was promoting his newest film, Last Vegas, about three 60-something-year-old friends who take a break from their day-to-day lives to throw a bachelor party in Sin City for their last single pal. During the conversation, the topic turned to politics and Freeman in the process defending President Barack Obama's election.
"The lengths that people will go to to show their prejudices! You see some of these signs that say, 'Take our country back!' What the f-k is that? Whose country are you talking about?" the actor said. "They are being pushed to the side, which is a good thing for them to realize: you don't have the power you think you have in this country. Obama was legitimately elected president. If you don't like that, fine, either move out, ot make your point and get yourself elected, but don't tear the country apart! That's not going to get you anywhere."
Freeman attributed the problems of the GOP to the Tea Party and voices that have made it popular.
"I think the Republicans have pretty much destroyed themselves by allowing themselves to be controlled by a small contingent of people with a lot of money...the Rush Limbaugh's of the world. All those...strange people," he said.
This is the second time the actor has ripped into the Tea Party. He previously accused the group of racist policies in an attempt to prevent President Obama's re-election.
Freeman also blasted the conservative viewpoint on gay rights, something he has been a proponent of for years.
"I'm in show business and I'm an ex-dancer. I have an enormous number of gay friends," the actor told the publicaton. "Marginalizing people for that? These people who are ignorant enough to think that being gay is a 'chosen lifestyle?' That's the height of ignorance. It's like saying being black if a chosen lifestyle. Get out of here!"
Last Vegas hits theaters Nov. 1. Watch its trailer below.
