'The Mentalist' Season 6 Spoilers: 'Tyger, Tyger' Origins to Link Red John With Law Enforcement, Viewers Ahead of Patrick Jane VIDEO
The Mentalist's Patrick Jane is quickly working through his list of Red John suspects, but fans now know more than the intrepid investigator and Lisbon's CBI team.
Last Sunday's "Red Listed" revealed the meaning behind the serial killer's cryptic "Tyger, Tyger" statement from season 2. Jane (Simon Baker) has spent three seasons mulling over why Red John chose to utter the opening line to William Blake's famous poem and it looks like it will now become integral to linking Red John to law enforcement.
According to the recently murdered Homeland Security Agent Bob Kirkland (Kevin Corrigan), "Tyger, Tyger" is a codeword uttered by law enforcement in order to collaborate when covering up murders or other illegal activity. His theory proved to be correct when he was killed by FBI Agent - and Red John suspect - Reede Smith (Drew Powell).
Unfortunately, Jane and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) were not present during this exchange, a fact that puts viewers in a new position, according to "Red Listed" writer Rebecca Cutter.
"For one of the first times, we're kind of ahead of what Jane and Lisbon know," Cutter said, according to the Seattle Pi. "They've heard 'Tiger Tiger.' Jane heard it from Red John. Lisbon heard it from Partridge in Episode 1. But now the audience is a little bit ahead in terms of this conspiracy within law enforcement. ... In future episodes, that link [between law enforcement and Red John] actually gets made and that has big ramifications for CBI."
Now that two of Jane's seven suspects are deceased, focus will be put on Bret Stiles (Malcolm McDowell), Gale Bertram (Michael Gaston), Ray Haffner (Reed Diamond), Reede Smith, and Sheriff Thomas McAllister (Xander Berkeley).
The Mentalist airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on CBS. Check out a new promo for this week's "The Red Tattoo" by clicking the video below.
