The Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, N.J. is currently in lockdown as police search for a shooter.
Shots were first fired at around 9:20 p.m. before the mall was set to close at 9:30 p.m., according to Pix 11 News. The station reports that there were eight shots fired by a suspect who is reported to be wearing body armor.
The incident took place on the second floor of the mall near Nordstrom's, according to the Huffington Post. There are at least 20 police units on the ground, according to CNN, and Pix 11 reports that there are over 200 police officers on the scene as they work to evacuate the area.
"Multiple gunshots were heard. We believe it is one shooter. I know there is an active shooter near the Nordstrom area. The mall is being evacuated," said Jeanne Baratta, Chief of Staff at Bergen County, according to Reuters.
While some patrons headed to the exits to evacuate, the Bergen Record reports that police told employees to lock their doors and then came and escorted them out.
"They told us to stay locked in the room and not to let anyone in," said an anonymous employee.
"I heard gunshots. I don't know anything else."
No injuries have been reported.
