Starting off the year with a defeat at the hands of the Boston Bruins, the Lightning's early season began to take shape following a series of wins against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Buffalo Sabres, and the Florida Panthers. The Florida team defeated the Carolina Hurricanes and the St. Louis Blues over the weekend and is currently in first place for the Atlantic division with 20 points, according to ESPN.
Coming into tonight's game, the Edmonton Oilers have a 4-10-2 record. The Canadian team has had a tough season so far, starting off the year with a loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Following a five game losing streak, the Oilers won two matches against the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens before entering a slump once more. On Tuesday, the Oilers pulled out a rare victory against the Florida Panthers and are now in seventh place for the Pacific Division with 10 points, according to ESPN.
