Veterans Day 2013 Discounts, Free Meals & Deals at Starbucks, Applebees, JC Penney and More [VIDEO]
As consumers gear up for Black Friday in a few weeks, several businesses are looking to capitalize on shoppers who want to beat the crowds by taking advantage of Veterans Day, a federal holiday that sees several employees having the day off.
Several retailers have been offering steep discounts in the hopes of luring in shoppers since a few days before Veterans Day, and some are set to expire either today or by the end of the week.
Stores offering discounts in honor of Veterans Day include:
1. J.C. Penney: The company has priced women's boots $39.99-$69.99 for veteran's Day, and is offering 20-50 percent off fine jewelry, 50 percent off bras when you purchase two or more, 20-40 percent off small appliances, 30-50 percent off bedding and bath, 25-50 percent off window, and 40-50 percent off furniture and mattresses. Consumers can also take advantage of deals like $10 off a $25 purchase, 20-25 percent off purchases of $150 or more, and 30 percent off purchases of $250 or more.
2. Macy's: The retailer is offering 20 percent off and free shipping on all purchases of $99 or more and an extra 10-15 percent off select departments when online shoppers use promo code SUPER. Online shoppers can also take advantage of an extra 20 percent off clearance purchases and a free cosmetics bag with a $75 beauty purchase. The retailer hasn't forgotten traditional in-store shoppers either: They have a coupon available on their website for an additional 20 percent off in-store.
3. Other retailers offering discounts to shoppers include Aeropostale, Barney's, The Body Shop, The Children's Place, Express, Hollister, Lord & Taylor, New York & Company, Nine West, Urban Outfitters and Yankee Candle.
Deals are also being offered at J.C. Penney and Bed Bath and Beyond for veterans and active military personnel, as well as their families through the holiday.
Several restaurants have not forgotten about those who have served for their country and offering so many deals that Vets don't have to worry about going hungry. Those offering deals on Veteran's Day include:
1. Applebee's: The restaurant is offering all active duty military personnel and veterans a free meal today only from its "Thank You" meal menu. Options include the company's Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger, 7-oz. House Sirloin, and new Three-Chees Chicken and Sun-Dried Tomato Penne Pasta.
2. California Pizza Kitchen: All Veterans and active military personnel can receive any menu pizza and a non-alcoholic beverage for free
3. Chili's: Veterans can eat free from a special menu today, with options including a Soup and Salad combo, Chicken Crispers and a Classic Turkey Sandwich
4. Denny's: Veterans and active-duty military personnel can enjoy all-you-can-eat stacks of buttermilk pancakes on Veteran's Day until 2 p.m.
5. Golden Corral: From 4-9 p.m. the buffet restaurant is offering a free "thank you" dinner for any person who has served in the U.S. military
6. Olive Garden: on Veterans Day, Veterans can get a free meal from a special menu, while families who dine with them get an additional 10 percent off their entire meal. The restaurant has extended their offer for the entire month of November, and will give military families 10 percent off every day of the month.
7. Outback Steakhouse: Veterans can receive a free Bloomin' Onion Appetizer and beverage on veterans Day, and will get 10 percent off their meal from Nov. 12 until the end of the year
8. Red Robin: Veterans can receive a free Tavern Double Burger served with Bottomless Fries on Veterans Day
9. Starbucks: Veterans, Active Duty Military Personnel and their Spouses will receive a free, tall brewed coffee
10. TGI Fridays: Veterans can receive a free lunch for the day
