One Direction on 'Midnight Memories' Songs in Billboard Cover Story: Band Talks About Record as a Reflection of Them
One Direction had a hand-on approach with Midnight Memories perhaps more than their past records and talked to Billboard magazine in its latest issue about how the upcoming third album may be their most representative work to date.
The group worked on lyrics to 12 of the 14 songs on the Midnight Memories standard edition, out Nov. 25, with an additional three on the 18-track deluxe package. The record features Niall Horan's skills on a guitar and an ample amount of '80s rock references, noticeable on the tracks Diana and the bonus cut Does He Know.
The five United Kingdom natives have their personal tastes in music personified in Midnight Memories -- expected to follow in the success of their last album, Take Me Home.
"I think we all have really different taste in music, Niall's really into his 80's rock and you know Zayn and Liam are more into R&B," Harry Styles said. "I think you can really feel our musical influences throughout the album."

Speaking with the magazine from the U.K. after a 10-day vacation, the band seemed eager to maintain the grueling pace of the last three years.
"I'm a night owl, so the late-night recordings don't really bother me - as long as I can sleep in late!" Zayn Malik said of the recording process.
Styles added, "I don't think it's that hard to stay focused. We get to go to amazing places and work with great people, it's just really fun!"
Horan admitted to the occasional bout of feeling homesick, which plays out in album cut Don't Forget Where You Belong.
"Luckily, I have my four best mates on the road with me to keep me from getting lonely," he explained. "Of course we all miss home at times. Who wouldn't, being on the road all year long? Wouldn't give it up for anything though."
'Midnight Memories' Tracklist & Collaborators; One Directio 2014 Tour Dates Announced
In a two-year period, the band sold over 35 million records worldwide, many of which were sold in the United States. Their debut album Up All Night sold 1.9 million copies since its U.S. release in March 2012, while last November's Take Me Home nearly matched it with 1.8 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Both albums debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making One Direction the first British band to enter the top of the chart with its first two albums since The Beatles.
One Direction will embark on a stadium tour in 2014 starting April 26 in Colombia. Oh, and they recently renewed their label deal for another three albums.
"We just love what we're doing right now. We've got no intention to change that," Liam Payne said.
Louis Tomlinson added, "Who knew we would be here three years ago? We're just going to focus on tomorrow and go from there."
