House of Lies star Kristen Bell gushed about her small, untraditional wedding to her now husband, Dax Shepard, during an interview with Jay Leno on Thursday.

She revealed that they wanted to quietly marry so they went online to get licenses and showed up at the courthouse. Once there, they found out that they needed someone to officiate.

"They said, 'No, you actually have to have someone ordaining you,'" Bell said.

She and Shepard panicked and texted friends and family, but couldn't find anyone that was qualified. That's when someone in the courthouse stepped in and volunteered. When it was official, the couple celebrated.

"We got sandwiches and called it a day. We called that our wedding brunch," she said with a laugh. "We had a playlist, so it was romantic. We drove in the Lincoln, so that was nice."

While they might not have done a lavish celebrity wedding, Bell told People magazine that it was just right for them.

"I don't fault anyone who wants a big day -- especially girls," she said. "But we get more than enough attention in our everyday lives. I also wear more than enough party dresses."

Bell and the Parenthood actor got engaged three years ago and always planned to have a secret and quiet wedding. Shepard gave Bell a 3 carat diamond Neil Lane ring with an emerald cut when he proposed. The couple also has an 8-month-old daughter named Lincoln.

Bell tweeted the wedding news to her fans on Oct. 18 and wrote: "Wife coffee tastes way better than regular coffee in the morning :)"
