Carrie Underwood Sound Of Music: 'See You Again' Singer Admits She's Receiving Hateful Remarks On Twitter [VIDEO]
Country star Carrie Underwood received some negative feedback for taking on the iconic Julie Andrews role of Maria Von Trapp in the upcoming live NBC Sound of Music special.
"I get hate tweets and stuff like, "You're not Julie Andrews!" Underwood said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I know I'm not Julie. Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was...I know my place."
Andrews, however, is actually a big supporter of Underwood's, and also responded to the criticism she has received.
"Fifty years later, it's time somebody had another crack at it," the 78-year-old star said. "I had the best time of my life doing it and it did wonderful things for me."
Andrews also passed on her best wishes for Underwood.
"I think it's great that it's being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting. I do hope it works for Carrie, because she's lovely and I'm a fan. I wish her well," she said.
Some of the negative remarks towards Underwood were from angry tweeters who said the former American Idol winner will never live up to Andrews.
"Carrie Underwood will never fill Julie Andrews' iconic shoes in 'The Sound of Music.' Sorry," The L3 tweeted.
"Definitely going to be judging Carrie Underwood during that Sound of Music Live," Helena Jones tweeted.
The production starring Underwood and True Blood's Stephen Moyer as Captain Von Trapp is based on the original play. The 1965 film Andrews starred in opposite Christopher Plummer went on to win five Academy Awards for telling the story of an Austrian nun who went on to become a nanny to the seven children of a stern widowers during the Nazi takeover.
The live special will air on NBC on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
