Paul Walker’s family has taken to his official Facebook page to release a statement about the actor's death on Saturday, Nov. 30.

While at a charity event, Walker was riding in a friend’s car that hit a tree and exploded into flames. He was 40 and left behind a daughter, Meadow.

The tragic car crash took place in Santa Clarita, Cali. while he was volunteering at an event with his charity, Reach Out Worldwide, to raise money to help those affected by the storm in the Philippines. His family released the following statement:

"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW"

A friend of Walker's was driving but lost control of the vehicle. Both the actor and the driver were pronounced dead immediately.

Walker was mid-way through filming Fast and Furious 7, scheduled for a July 2014 release. He has starred in five of the six Fast & Furious films. His costars took to social media to pay tribute to the late actor and talk about how much they will miss him.

The upcoming film will honor the late star.

"Many people within the production haven't even heard the tragic news because of the holidays, but its almost positive that the movie will still move forward in his honor," a source close to the film's cast told HollywoodLife.com. "Once people get back to work on Monday, many meetings will be happening."
