The highly anticipated Batman vs. Superman has found its Wonder Woman.
Gal Gadot has officially been cast as Wonder Woman for the 2015 blockbuster Batman vs. Superman, a.k.a. Man of Steel 2. Gadot, who has appeared in numerous Fast & Furious films, will be playing the first incarnation of Wonder Woman ever depicted for a feature length film.
"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role," said director Zack Snyder in a statement. "We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
Gadot had long been rumored to be playing Wonder Woman ever since a tweet from expert blogger El Mayimbe. The blogger tweeted that Gadot was the frontrunner to play the "female lead" in Batman vs. Superman, indicating that Wonder Woman will be a significant character alongside Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill).
Gadot, 28, is well known in the pageant industry as the winner of Miss Israel in 2004. She went on to compete in Miss Universe the same year. She has also had acting roles in Date Night, Knight and Day and Entourage.
Batman vs. Superman is scheduled for release in theaters on July 17, 2015.
