Kanye West: North West Is What My Mother Wanted Me to Have More Than Anything, 'Yeezus' Rapper Opens Up About Raising Daughter [VIDEO]
While tons of Hollywood celebrities are getting festive for the holiday season, outspoken rapper Kanye West opened up about what it's like to raise his first daughter, North, during this time of year, just a few years after losing his mother.
During an interview with The Rickey Smiley Morning Show he said, "Having a beautiful daughter just makes [this time of year] even more sad because I know that's what my mother wanted me to have more than anything" the Bound 2 rapper candidly revealed. "But I know she's, you know, protecting us and I know she can see us...Everything is just bitter sweet."
West has never been one to shy away from giving his mother the credit for his major success. He told the show host, Rickey Smiley, that the way his mother, Donda, brought him up has much to do with the level of influence he has achieved.
"She built me and educated me from day one. She put me in art school when I was five years old and a computer programming class at age 10."
He added that he got his start in music after using a sound program on a $6,000 computer his mother bought him when he was a little boy.
But he is looking at the brighter side of it all. He said he is happy for the successful moments his mother was able to see before her passing.
"It was fortunate for us that she did get to see and experience success and have fun nights that we had at the Grammys and selling all these records and just overcoming and having our dreams comes true."
