Jay Z almost blew Robinson Cano's contract with the Seattle Mariners because the agent asked for too much money, according to reports.

An earlier New York Daily News report indicated that Robinson and his team were offered a $225 million contract for nine years with the Mariners. But when Jay Z increased the contract to 10 years for $252 million, Mariners president Howard Lincoln "exploded" and ended the meeting, according to sources.

But it seemed to have worked out for the best, as the Mariners was able to negotiate a 10-year, $240 million contract, ending his tenure with The New York Yankees.

"We're really happy," Jose Cano, Robinson's father, told the Daily News. "We got the 10 years. (Robinson) loved the Yankees, but now we are switching to the Mariners. We're making Seattle home. He called me about 3 am (Pacific time) and told me the news, and he's very happy."

"A lot of the Dominican is happy too. I've gotten a lot of calls already, people congratulating me."

ESPN Deportes is said to be the first news outlet to report the deal between Robinson and Seattle, but it won't be official until he takes a physical.

Sources said the The Yankees likely would have offered Robinson $175 million, which would have been a higher average annual value though for three fewer years and $65 million less.
