Surprising Celebrity Couples of 2013: Stars Who Began Dating This Year: Naya Rivera and Big Sean, Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting & More
2013 was a big year for celebrity couples and hot hook-ups.
While several celebrities announced shocking splits which stunned fans around the world, several others changed the conversation when they debuted surprisingly high-profile romances.
Most of these romances continue to surprise today, as several of the couples have announced official engagements or plans to eventually tie the knot, with weddings scheduled as early as New Year's Eve and early 2014.
Enstars compiled a list of nine couples who went public with relationships in 2013:
1. Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult: The Oscar winner split with Hoult, her boyfriend of two years, early in January 2013 due to busy schedules. She went on to win a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook while Hoult saw some critical success with his hit vampire love story, Warm Bodies. The two rekindled their romance in June when they began filming X-Men: Days of Future Past and are reportedly still together. Since Lawrence is on track to nab another Oscar nomination for her work in American Hustle, Hoult will likely be sitting next to his lady love on the big night.
2. Britney Spears and David Lucado: After splitting with fiancé Jason Trawick in January, Britney found love just two months later with David Lucado, who works for a legal firm. She even said back in November, "I'm in love...I like the fact that [Lucado is] very stubborn and he's stuck in his ways. He's just a simple man. I adore him. He's really funny and he's really passionate. I love the fact that anything he's involved in he's passionate and it's contagious."
3. John Mayer and Katy Perry: Though they began dating initially in summer 2012 and had a few breakups and makeups in between, they officially rekindled their relationship this past summer and have been virtually inseparable ever since, even recording a hit duet, Who You Love together. The two are rumored to be getting engaged soon.
4. Ciara and Future: They were originally spotted together on a dinner date at the end of 2012, and by January 2013, Future confirmed he was dating the singer, saying "We love being around each other and that's just what it is. The chemistry is there. It's amazing. She makes me happy, I make her smile." The couple has since announced their engagement.
5. Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo: Despite a brief and abrupt ending to their relationship in the spring (and Levine's even-briefer fling with Sports Illustrated supermodel Nina Agdal), the Maroon 5 front man and Victoria's Secret model were back on track pretty quickly, and soon announced their engagement as well.
6. Naya Rivera and Big Sean: The Glee actress began dating the rapper in April, and the couple made their public debut at the movie premiere for 42. Fast-forward to Fall 2013, they announced their engagement, and have plans to marry in 2014.
7. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard: After rumors that Heard was the reason Depp broke up with his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, the 49-year-old actor confirmed his romance with the 27-year-old earlier this year.
8. Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting: Despite having a high-profile and brief fling with Man of Steel star Henry Cavill during the early summer months, it was tennis pro Ryan Sweeting who stole the Big Bang Theory actress' heart. They only went public at the Primetime Emmys in September after three months of dating, and confirmed their engagement later in the week. They plan to tie the knot on New Year's Eve.
9. Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg: After taking a one-year break from dating, The View co-host Jenny McCarthy began dating the Blue Bloods star in June, though she has since admitted she thought he might have been gay since it took him nearly three months after they met to ask her out. Thankfully, he wasn't and the two have been going strong ever since.
