Cheyenne Woods Qualifies for U.S. Women's Open; Follows in Uncle Tiger's Footsteps
Tiger Wood's niece Cheyenne Woods has proved to be a pro woman golfer in her own right. She has qualified for the U.S. Women's Open at Blackwolf Run yesterday. The 21-year-old won the ACC Championship last year after playing golf for four years at Wake Forest University while studying for a degree in communications.
The U.S. Women's Open will be held next month. Woods was a co-medalist along with Katherine Perry at the qualifier at Carolina Trace Country Club. She shot a 74 on her first round, followed by a 72 on the second round.
Tiger's niece will be making her pro debut next week at the Wegmens LPGA Championship after getting a sponsor's exemption.
Cheyenne is a daughter of Tiger Wood's half brother Earl. Her grandfather was her first coach. She says she remembers Earl Sr having her practice her chipping by hitting balls over a suitcase on the floor of her hotel room, according to New York Times. Since her grandfather's death in 2006, Tiger has played the role that his father had once played for Cheyenne.
She had previously played for Xavier College Preparatory golf team and has won over 30 amateur tournaments. She received a sponsor's exemption to play in the Wegmans LPGA in 2009 but missed the cut by only four strokes.
Cheyenne is definitely following the footsteps of her uncle Tiger Woods.
