While Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are really great friends now, there was a time the two had a falling out.

The childhood friends and former Disney stars drifted apart around 2010, the same year that Lovato entered rehab for an eating disorder and self-harm issues.

Gomez opened up to Seventeen magazine about the incident in the March issue.

"I've known her since we were 7, and we did fall apart for a while," Gomez said of Lovato.

"She was going through things and I was so young and it was confusing. I processed it saying, 'OK, I don't understand what she's going through so I'm just going to do this.' I don't think it was fair, and I'm so happy that I have her back in my life now."

Years later, Gomez even praises Lovato for her decision to seek help and the singer's ability to turn her life around.

"I feel like we're all given what we can handle, and clearly someone thought she could handle so much-and she could, and she did. And she's incredible for that. I couldn't imagine going through some of the things that she went through, and the fact that she is who she is today is insane-she's one of my inspirations," she said.

Yet, Lovato previously said that Gomez was one of the few people who were there for her during that difficult period.

"Selena called me crying when I was in there and was just so worried and I was like 'Look I should be the one crying, it's all good,'" she told the Italian network Televisionet.Tv last June. "She was so worried and ever since then, you know, we've gotten closer."
