NCIS: Los Angeles' Callen is walking a thin line, precariously balanced several stories above the streets of the California city.

Chris O'Donnell's character is teaming up with Deeks (Eric Christain Olsen) and taking his investigation to the edge in "Between the Lines."

The father of five posted an early morning Instagram on Monday showing him carefully edging along the outer ledge of a building and O'Donnell stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live later in the day to discuss his recent - and slightly unexpected - stunt work.

"It was funny, as I was going out and they were all ready to go and the camera was there and I go, 'Was there anyone who was maybe going to ask me if I was okay with this?'" O'Donnell told Kimmel (see video below) . "Troy, our stunt guys, whose the best, goes, 'Well you've done those mountain climbing films, I thought you were fine. I said, 'No, I'm fine; I just didn't realize I was really going out on the ledge but lets do this."

Meanwhile, Smith took to Twitter to drop a few extra hints about the season's 17th episode.

"Fun #NCISLA ep first three days shooting. Sam rolls the dice and Callen rolls with Deeks. Kensi in the dark, humm?" the director wrote on Friday.
