The opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics kicks off on Friday in Sochi and the lavish event will infuse Russian classics.

"Most of the ceremony focuses heavily on Russian classical music," Konstantin Ernst, the main creative producer of the ceremony, told CNN.

"Unfortunately, unlike London, we cannot boast a plethora of famous world-known pop performers. This is why we are now focusing on what Russia is best known for musically around the world; namely, classical music."

Russian classical music star Anna Netrebko, 42, will perform the Olympic anthem with approximately 40,000 people watching from the stands. Russian President Vladimir Putin will also be one of them.

While there's been fear of terror attacks, controversy over gay rights in the country, and criticism on the preparation, the head of the Games, Dmitry Chernyshenko insists Sochi will be "the safest place on Earth during the Olympics."

Competitors Share Their Stories Of Struggle And Triumph

For example, there has been a big threat made from the group Imarat Kavkaz in Russia. The group publicly stated that it will try to interrupt the Olympic Games.

"The threat stream is credible, I think it's real," U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, said.

To prevent danger, there will be 37,000 police and security officers present, according to CNN.
