Along with the cover art, title, and release date, Pharrell gave fans a sneak peek into his creative process in an album trailer posted to his personal Instagram. In it, the super producer is seen working with classically trained violinists, working his magic on the keys, dancing and reviewing his creations, and then finally shedding a tear before the video fades out.
Though the official track list has yet to be revealed, it has been confirmed that Happy, the Despicable Me 2 chart topper, will be on the album. The song has recieved an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
Last December, the dad of 4-year-old Rocket Man inked a deal with Columbia records. In a statement he released about the album, he explained, "When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind; One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called G I R L. I hope you like it."
This album, unlike In My Mind, will have no rapping. In a recent interview with Complex, he said of the new music, "It's focused. Like I told you, that's the difference between 30 and 40. 'Cause I was 30, now I'm 40 -- and I'm not rapping."
The album hits store shelves March 3rd.
