To the excitement of the hockey fans, it will be Canada going up against the Latvia side at the Bolshoy Ice Dome at the 2014 Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

The respective matchup will be a high stakes one, as the winner will go on to compete for a medal.

The Canadians were expected to get to this point, as they were the ones who won the gold medal four years ago at the Vancouver Games.

On the other hand, Latvia's expectations weren't exactly sky high. The team went 0-3 in the group stage. However, all three of its defeats were very close matchups and Latvia finally was able to execute by pulling out an upset over Switzerland 3-1 in a play-in game on Tuesday.

Goaltender Edgars Masalskis was able to stop 38 of 39 shots on goal against the Swiss in the Group C opening matchup. However, it wasn't good enough because his team couldn't net a goal. In Tuesday's game, Masalskis was nearly as impressive making 32 saves, but on this occasion, they were able to pull out a 2-0 victory.
