Droid RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich Update Release Within Weeks: Build Leaked
The official Ice Cream Sandwich update for Motorola's Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX is expected to be ready within 2 weeks, according to Motorola’s timeline and recent leaked images of upgrades being tested.
Motorola has officially said it would unveil an ICS upgrade for Droid RZR and Droid RAZR MAXX in Q2 2012, which ends June 30.
With that time set, tech site DroidRzr.com leaked an image of a system version 6.16.211 being tested in a Droid RAZR MAXX, what may be the latest version of the updates.
Tech site Droid-Life estimates that the update may be ready for the public within one to two weeks but Motorola has no word on an official date.
CNET had originally reported that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Droid RAZR would be on June 12.
Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is the latest version of the Android platform for phones, tablets, and more. It builds on multitasking, notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets, and interactivity .
Motorola’s Droid RZR MAXX became the top selling phone on Verizon on June 13, outselling the iPhone 4S. For the first time in five years, the Droid RAZR which runs on 4G LTE has trumped Apple's smartphone on the carrier.
Financial analysts estimate that the RAZR MAXX is now the top selling smartphone as of June for the second quarter this year.
"Since Apple's iPhone launch in North America, we believe this was the first quarter where the iPhone was not the best‐selling smartphone at a North American mobile operator," financial analyst William Blair said.
