iPhone 5 Release Will Have Smaller 19-pin Port: Report
A report surfaced that iPhone 5 will be released with a smaller port with 19 pins, according to tech blog TechCrunch.
The blog quotes three independent manufactures as its sources saying they all agreed "the 19-pin dock port is in the works."
"TechCrunch has independently verified that Apple is working on adding a 19-pin port to the new iPhone. It is a move that will surely send shocks through the iPhone accessory ecosystem," the site reported Wednesday.
Apple is switching to the smaller dock from the existing 30-pin dock port merely because of size issues, according to iDownloadBlog.
Rumors that Apple was working on a smaller charging port had been out since last month.
Other rumors about iPhone 5 suggest the next generation smartphone will have a 4-inch screen, compared to the 3.5-inch screen on iPhone 4S.
Anticipation for the new iPhone 5 skyrocketed after the Chief Executive Officer of Foxconn - the manufacturer- said Tuesday the iPhone 5 will put Samsung Galaxy S3 "to shame."
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to dominate the Android smartphone market with its huge 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 1280x720p resolution.
The phone features an 8MP camera, 1GB ram and a powerful Exynos 4 Quad (1.4GHz) processor. The Samsung Galaxy S3 follows its predecessor - the Galaxy S2 - which was the best-selling mobile phone in the world.
