'Star Wars Episode 7' Casting: Benedict Cumberbatch Addresses Reports On Getting A Role? [VIDEO]
Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has reportedly addressed the rumors that he would play a part in Star Wars: Episode VII with some anticipating results.
The actor who made an appearance at OzComicCon was quoted in tweets made from The Iris. When it came down to the question about the new Star Wars flick directed by J.J. Abrams, it looks like filmmakers are going to be heading in a new direction.
"I would've liked a part in JJ's new Star Wars but it won't happen sadly," The Iris tweeted in Cumberbatch's words.
This leaves new speculation on who would play a part in the epic saga since actors from left and right have been rumored to get a part. Some of these actors include Zac Efron, Lupita Nyong'o, Gary Oldman, Jesse Plemmons and Adam Driver.
One of the most recent reports of casting updates came from The Hollywood Reporter, which mentioned that new actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers might play the leading female.
According to Metro, Lost actor Dominic Monaghan pointed out that the director may want to cast unknown actors for the film, which leaves more hope on Richardson-Sellers.
"We've talked about it a few times and he said, 'We're putting together a cast of unknowns- we want to follow the '77 New Hope cast because obviously Harrison Ford wasn't well-known at that point, Mark Hamill wasn't and Carrie Fisher wasn't either," Monaghan said about Abrams.
Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to come to theaters on December 18, 2015.
