'Elmo' Arrested in Central Park: Video of Sesame Street's Character Going Crazy Surfaces
An Elmo impersonator was arrested in New York's Central Park for allegedly yelling obscenities and bothering tourists to pay him to pose for pictures.
The man with the Elmo costume was taken in by an abulance to have a psychological evaluation at the Metropolitan Hospital Center, according to the New York Times.
"The offending Elmo would often treat tourists and fellow Sesame Street impersonators alike to xenophobic and anti-Semitic tirades," writes the paper.
In a video posted on YouTube, the Elmo impersonator is heard yelling:
"If you start your own business in this city, Jews will harass you."
A fellow Elmo impersonator told the Times that the man arrested used to stand around yelling in Times Square.
"He would stop and say that we were all illegal immigrants and that people shouldn't have their photos taken with us," costume impersonator Luis told the paper. Luis said he would move to another part of Times Square.
A video on YouTube shows an Elmo in Central Park shouting anti-semitic statements but it hasn't been confirmed if its the same man that was taken by the ambulance.
