Teresa Giudice's legal woes are starting to look up.
Teresa Thinks Jail Time Will Make Her 'More Famous'?
The Real Housewives of New Jersey star got a little relief from her troubles with the law when a judge dismissed a mortgage fraud civil lawsuit against her, NJ.com reported Monday.
A Superior Court Judge in Bergen County, Judge Robert Polifroni, came to the conclusion that Giudice had no involvement or connection in a fraud situation allegedly committed by her husband, Joe Giudice, and his ex business partner Joseph Mastropole.
Joe and Teresa's Trial Drama To Be 'Much Of' Season 6?
Michael DeMarco, who is part of the Giudices' legal team said he is "extremely pleased" with the outcome. But it's not completely over yet as Mastropole's attorney, William Michelson, is planning to appeal.
Still, it's looking good for Joe as well because Judge Polifroni also tossed out a majority of Mastropole's lawsuit against him.
But he is not totally in the clear yet. The judge didn't dismiss allegations that claim Joe forged Mastropole's name on documents in a business move connected to the discharge of a mortgage in an apartment building in the East Orange area. The discharge was all a part of their decision to go their separate ways in their "business divorce" back in 2007.
Mastropole's name was removed from the mortgage completely while Joe decided to refinance it without handing Mastropole the $260,000 he owed him. Fans got a look at this portion of the legal drama on The Real Housewives of New Jersey when Mastropole sued the couple and requested the debt owed to him be taken out of the reality TV couple's 2009 bankruptcy case. In the recent ruling, the judge decided that the debt was repaid to Mastropole in a foreclosure deal. He also sided against Mastropole when he requested that his attorney fees at least be covered.
While Joe and Teresa did withdraw their bankruptcy application, it wasn't before they were accused of bankruptcy fraud, leading to their guilty plea to nearly 41 counts including tax evasion, bank and mortgage fraud.
The couple still owes $13.4 million to creditors.
In the meantime, Joe is facing nearly 4 years in jail while Teresa is looking at up to 27 months. Their sentence is scheduled for July 8.
