However, TMZ reported on Wednesday that the fitness guru copped a deal with federal agents to act as their informant. According to the site, under the agreement Nida agrred to go undercover to help the FBI investigate and even let agents record conversations that he has with other suspects.

It's not clear how long the deal was in place before Nida pleaded guilty, so he could have been acting as an informant long before it became public knowledge. But if it is new information, it would be extremely difficult for federal agents to find any criminal suspects willing to open up to Nida, knowing he is working undercover.

Nida pleaded guilty to wire and bank fraud in a scheme that laundered more than $2.3 million from victims, according to a statement released by the Justice Department Tuesday. The government agency described Nida and his partners as "conniving and creative in their scheme to steal victims' identities and defraud them."

They listed "everyday citizens, legitimate businesses and taxpayers" as victims of the scam that was brought to the public light when Nida was arrested on Jan. 24, 2014. Still, the statement reveals they had been investigating Nida months before.

"The U.S. Secret Service confronted Nida and seized his laptop computer, pursuant to a search warrant, on September 13, 2013."

After his guilty plea Nida said, "It's my fault at the end of the day. I got sucked in and engulfed and lost sight of things."

Nida will be sentenced on July 8.
