'House Of Cards' Season 3: Kevin Spacey 'Wouldn't Have Been Ready' For Show A Decade Ago? [VIDEO]
In a May 13 interview promoting his documentary NOW: In the Wings on a World Stage Kevin Spacey spoke about how theater prepared him for House of Cards.
Speaking to CBC Spacey spoke about how performing on stage -- he is currently routing for Richard III in which he plays the titular character -- was extremely vital to his craft and how that was relayed to his performances in film and telelvision. He particularly cited House of Cards stating that he "wouldn't have been ready" for the show "ten years ago" and its essentially all the theater work that has allowed him to portray the part of Frank Underwood in the Netflix series.
Spacey also spoke about theater was more the actor's medium wheras film was essentially the director's medium.
In the another recent interview with Anthony Mason, Spacey, spoke about working on House of Cards and Richard III, the play he is touring with, with CBS news' Mason. He suggested that he stood by the idea of doing the Netflix series, despite the gamble it was.
"I think people thought we were nuts," Spacey said. "I didn't think we were nuts."
He went on to tell Mason that he was having an amazing time playing the vile political opportunist, Francis Underwood.
"I'm having the time of my life working on it," he said. "It's a complete joy.
The third season of House of Cards will film in Maryland, where the first and second seasons were also shot. Initially, the continuation of filming of the third season of the Netflix series was fraught with troubles over the past few weeks as the producers weren't getting permission from the State of Maryland. But the issue was finally resolved on April 25.
