Weeks, who also goes by "Belle Knox," was recently outed as a porn star where she received constant threats online and from fellow students at Duke University. Funke reportedly went through a similar incident where she was outed for doing porn, leading to harassment as well.
After Funke committed suicide by allegedly shooting herself, Weeks wrote about the situation on XO Jane on Friday, giving her condolences as well as what she and Funke had in common.

"We were both straight A students," Weeks wrote. "Like you, I have battled depression for years. I too was a freshman in college when I was outed as a porn performer. We even shot for the same website, where I had an experience that traumatized me to this day. And, just like you, I was bullied relentlessly by my fellow students for my actions as a performer."
The actress went on to write about how she wishes she could have done something to help Funke. She also mentions that she believes society's reaction to the adult entertainment industry is what caused her death.
"It's time that we end slut shaming and treat sex workers with respect and tolerance," Weeks concludes in her statement. "How many more people need to die before we realize that the hatred needs to end? I will never forget you, Alyssa."
