Edgar Wright surprised Ant-Man fans when he suddenly bowed out as director of the long-gestating film earlier this month, and new details are beginning to emerge about the reasons behind the writer's departure.
'Ant-Man' Movie Loses Director Edgar Wright, How Will This Affect The Story?
The man behind the camera for Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End, Wright has been attached to the Ant-Man project since 2006. Marvel cited creative differences as reason for their split with Wright, and The Hollywood Reporter claims that Wright walked because of changes the studio made to his script.
"[Marvel Studios president of production] Kevin Feige [and his top lieutenants] run Marvel with a singularity of vision, but when you take a true auteur and throw him into the mix, this is what you get," says a source, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "They don't want you to speak up too much or have too much vision. People who have never worked there don't understand how they operate, but if you trust them, they have an amazing track record."

Although it is unknown if the sources statement is completely accurate or not, there is at least one Marvel affiliate who is sad to see Wright leave the MCU and may possibly support his decision. Avengers: Age of Ultron writer/director Joss Whedon posted a salute to his fellow writer on May 24, holding up a Cornetto in honor of Wright's 'Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy.'
Despite Wright's departure, Ant-Man is still set for release on July 17, 2015.
