Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman News: Actress Saved Country Music Star Through Intervention? [VIDEO]
Singer Keith Urban struggled with substance abuse throughout the early nineties. When he married actress Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Grace of Monaco) in 2006, however, things changed.
Recently Urban discussed his struggle with alcohol and drugs, which reached its height while performing in the country music band, The Ranch.
ABC News reported Friday, June 6, 2014 that Urban was especially vulnerable to substance abuse when alone.
"I liked to get crazy after the gig and when I would do lots of drugs is when I was home off the road," explained Urban in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Eventually Urban entered rehab in 1998, marrying Kidman eight years later. Shortly after their wedding, however, Kidman went away to shoot on location and Urban found himself isolated again. "I would find myself feeling very alone, very lost, and vulnerable to my old ways," said Urban, who went on to tell of how Kidman came back and, committed to her husband, staged an intervention.
Urban has spoken of staying "true to yourself" as a musician, but through his marriage with Kidman has found himself trying to do the same as a person as well.
Urban spoke highly of his wife. "She is so celestial..." he said to Rolling Stone, "I was born into her."
The couple, who celebrate eight years of marriage this month, have two daughters. Urban and Kidman were most recently seen getting cozy at the CMT Awards.
Urban will head out on tour in July 2014.
